TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Kyla Lutz (Tennyson/Boonville) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for her efforts in a 3-1 week.
Lutz led Rose-Hulman with a .538 batting average on 7-13 at the plate with a team-high on-base percentage of .600 to help lead the Engineers to a sweep over Franklin and a split against Hanover.
In addition, Lutz also pitched complete game victories against both Franklin and Hanover, highlighted by a shutout against Hanover on Saturday.
Lutz is batting .321 this season with 26 hits and 16 runs scored, while leading the pitching staff with six victories.
Lutz is the second HCAC Hitter of the Week honoree this season for Rose-Hulman, joining senior Allison Faber (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy), who became the new single-season and career home run leader for the Fightin' Engineers on Sunday.
Rose-Hulman stands 13-19 overall and 6-8 in league play. The Engineers host Defiance College in the HCAC regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
