Softball Season Comes to End at Manchester


mueller-hitNORTH MANCHESTER, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology completed the 2013 softball season by falling 11-3 and 3-2 at Manchester University on Saturday.

In the opener, Emily Willmann had four hits and scored three runs to lead the Manchester offense.  Kaile Niezgodski also finished 2-4 with three RBIs and a home run.  The offense helped Maureen Lund earned a complete game victory that featured five strikeouts.

For Rose-Hulman, junior Allison Bowman (Fort Wayne/Snider), freshman Marissa Stout (Terre Haute/South) and senior Alyse Mueller (Belleville, Ill./West) each had a single and an RBI to lead the offensive effort.

In the nightcap, Manchester scored in the bottom of the seventh to snap a 2-2 tie and secure a 3-2 victory.  Willmann ended the contest with a two-out RBI single to send the Spartans into the HCAC Tournament on a win.

Mueller tossed the complete game in her final college pitching outing.  Senior Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart/Central) joined Mueller in her final game at Rose-Hulman with two singles.  Stout and sophomore Carly Heibel (Fort Wayne/Lakewood Park) had two hits each in game two.

Manchester improved to 17-13 overall and 9-3 in conference games, while Rose-Hulman completed the season with a 12-24 overall record.
