BOX SCORES (TO COME):  IMMACULATA / AUGUSTANA

ahlborn-acCLERMONT, FLA. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the 2013 softball season with a doubleheader split on Monday at the USA Softball Complex.

Rose-Hulman topped Immaculata 4-1 in the season opener, then fell 4-0 to Augustana in the nightcap.

In the Immaculata win, sophomore Jessica Ahlborn (Houghton, Mich.) provided a three-run home run to turn a 1-1 tie into a 4-1 victory for Rose-Hulman.  The sixth inning blast was the third of her career.

Senior Alyse Mueller (Belleville, Ill./West) added a single and scored one run for the Engineers.

In the pitching circle, senior Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart/Central) tossed the complete game victory.  Widmoyer allowed just two hits with nine strikeouts in her first start of the season.

In the nightcap against Augustana, Ashley Anderson led the Vikings with a one-hitter and five strikeouts in the pitching circle.  Freshman Cassidy Bevington (Delphos, Ohio/Jefferson) provided a double for the lone hit.  Mueller allowed no earned runs in a complete game pitching effort.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-1 on the season and squares off with Augustana and Capital on Tuesday in Florida.
