TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology celebrated Senior Day with an 8-2 and 4-1 doubleheader sweep over the College of Mount St. Joseph in softball action on Saturday.
Seniors Alyse Mueller (Belleville, Ill./West) and Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart/Central) were honored prior to the contest as a pair of four-year starters. Mueller then picked up the game one victory with a complete game pitching effort.
Mueller scattered nine hits with one strikeout for her second victory of the season. The Engineer offense relied on three players with multiple hit games.
Widmoyer added to her career school record with another double and added a single and two RBIs. Sophomore Carly Heibel (Fort Wayne/Lakewood Park) provided the big blast of the day with a grand slam as part of a five-run sixth inning.
Sophomore Jessica Ahlborn (Houghton, Mich.) contributed two singles with two runs scored and one RBI to the balanced game one offensive attack.
In the nightcap, freshman Marissa Stout (Terre Haute/South) showcased Rose-Hulman's bright future with a strong all-around performance. Stout slapped a double and was 3-3 at the plate, while tossing a complete game in the circle with two strikeouts for the win.
Heibel smashed another home run, and sophomore Lindsey Watterson (Lexington, Ind./Southwestern) also blasted a solo home run for the game two offense.
Rose-Hulman improved to 12-20 overall and 4-8 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 4-22 and 1-9 in league games. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Anderson on Sunday.
