Softball Falls at Centre College Tournament



DANVILLE, KY. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology finished their weekend at the Centre College March Mayhem Tournament by dropping games to Oberlin and Allegheny.

In their first game of the day, the Engineers fell to Oberlin 10-7.  Rose-Hulman was led by sophomore Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) and freshman Carly Heibel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Lakewood Park) who both had two hits.  Martinek also led the team with three runs batted in and scored a run.  Heibel added two runs, and also batted two in. 

Freshman Samantha Springer (Irving Texas,/Parish Episcopal) led the team with three hits.  Jessica Alhborn (Houghton, Mich.) added two runs to the effort. 

The Engineers jumped to an early 5-2 lead after a four-run third inning.  Oberlin then came back with seven runs in the fourth which proved to much to overcome for Rose-Hulman. 

Against Allegheny, junior Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart, Ind./Central) led the Engineers with three hits and one run batted in and also scored once.  Heibel and Ahlborn each recorded two hits. 

Rose-Hulman took a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning before the Gators clawed back with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim the 7-3 win. 

Rose-Hulman stands 3-9 overall and will open its home schedule against Robert Morris-Springfield on March 24.
