ahlborn-acGAME 1 BOX; GAME 2 BOX

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology topped Robert Morris-Springfield 10-2 in the nightcap after falling 4-0 in the opener in softball action on Saturday.

In the opener, junior Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart/Central) led the Engineers with a double and a complete game in the pitching circle.  Widmoyer scattered seven hits and recorded eight strikeouts in the effort.

In game two, Widmoyer led the Engineers with two hits and three runs batted in,  Junior Kayla Irwin (Farmersburg, Ind./North Central) and freshman Jessica Ahlborn (Houghton, Mich.) also added two hits.  Ahlborn also scored three runs in the effort while Irwin and freshman Rosemary Yost (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson)  contributed two runs each. 

Junior Alyse Mueller (Belleville, Ill./West) pitched the complete game with six strikeouts and allowed just four hits for her first win of the season.  Mueller also had a double with two RBI's from the plate.

Ahlborn started game two with her first career home run to lead off the Engineer first inning.  Rose-Hulman added two more runs in the second when Yost doubled and scored freshman Carly Heibel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Lakewood Park) and also scored a run. 

Robert Morris narrowed the lead to 3-2 in the fourth before the Engineers answered and scored five runs fueled by two seperate two-run hits.  Ahlborn and Irwin both singled and were knocked in by another single by Widmoyer.  Mueller's double also knocked in two runs. Sophomore Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) scored the fifth run of the inning. 

The Engineers manufactured three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to clinch the victory.  

Rose-Hulman stands 4-10 on the season and will return home for the conference opener on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Manchester.
