DANVILLE, KY. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology softball team opened the Centre College Invitational
with 5-4 and 13-5 losses to the host Colonels on
Saturday.
In the opener, Rose-Hulman scored twice in the sixth inning to knot the score at 2-2, then answered with two more runs in the seventh to tie the contest at 4-4. Centre scored once in the seventh to secure the win.
Freshman Allison Bowman (Fort Wayne/Snider) led the offense with two singles and one RBI, with freshman Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mo./Troy Buchanan) contributing two RBIs.
Senior Allison Faber (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had a double, two runs scored and one RBI, while sophomore Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) (pictured) added a double and one run scored.
In the nightcap, the Colonels relied on a fast start to capture a 13-5 victory. Regina Sena and Emily Meador led the Centre offense with three RBI doubles.
For Rose-Hulman, Faber blasted a home run and a single with three RBIs and one run scored. Martinek added two singles, one run and one RBI.
Rose-Hulman stands 2-8 overall and returns to action with games against Oberlin and Centre on Sunday in Kentucky.
