TERRE HAUTE, IND.-- Rose-Hulman scored in every inning in game two to top Mount St. Joseph and earn a softball doubleheader split on Saturday.
Mount St. Joseph won the first contest by a 5-3 count, before Rose-Hulman rallied to claim a 12-5 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, freshman
Jenna Martinek (Troy, Mo./Buchanan) and sophomore
Alyse Mueller (Belleville, Ill./West) smashed
doubles to lead the offensive effort. Martinek also added a
single.
Senior Kyla Lutz (Tennyson, Ind./Boonville)
pitched in with two singles and two RBIs, and tossed the complete
game in the circle with four strikeouts.
In game two, freshmen Allison Bowman (Fort Wayne/Snider) and Mary Schultz (Harrison, Ohio) (pictured) each blasted home runs to lead the Rose-Hulman offensive attack. Schultz finished 2-4 with a home run, double and four RBIs. Bowman was 2-3 with a home run, double, two runs and three RBIs.
Senior Kayla Yano
(Ontario, Ore.) slapped two doubles with two RBIs, and
senior Allison Faber (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu
Academy) pitched in with two singles, two runs and one
RBI. Martinek also scored three times in the leadoff
spot.
Rose-Hulman is now 9-11 on the season and 3-3 in the HCAC, while
Mount St. Joseph stands 3-14 and 1-3 in league play. The
Engineers host Grace College on Friday at 5 p.m.
