TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team's conference opener against Bluffton has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Lima Senior High School, 1 Spartan Way, Lima,Ohio.
The Engineers (4-2-4, 0-0 HCAC) were originally slated travel to Bluffton for a Saturday matchup, but the site was deemed unplayable after heavy rains hit northwest Ohio Friday.
Rose-Hulman enters the match with hopes to crack the winning column, as the Engineers have played opponents to three double-overtime, 0-0 draws in the past four matches. The latest was Tuesday's scoreless tie to crosstown rival St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
Senior Nicky Wheeler (Avon,Ind./Avon) leads the Engineers' offense with four goals and an assist in 2013. She currently leads the HCAC in shots with 34. Sophomore teammate Hayley Gilliam (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) adds two goals and an assist and junior Haley O'Neil (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) has three assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Danville) has been a big reason why the Engineers haven't lost an overtime match, as she's recorded 79 saves and allowed just six goals this season. Combs' save percentage of .929 is ranked in the top 15 in the Division III national rankings and her six shutouts currently leads the HCAC.
Bluffton (2-4-0, 0-0 HCAC) enters Sunday's match averaging 17.8 shots per game. Kristen Tropf leads the Beavers with four goals and teammate Aimee Whitner has three scores in 2013. Goalkeeper Maggie Armstrong has seen the most time in the net, as she's tallied 18 saves and allowed eight goals in 372 minutes played.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in their last meeting in 2012, as O'Neil's goal in the 85th minute erased a 1-0 deficit and forced two overtime periods.
