TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman women's soccer
team will compete at the annual Locks of Love charity event at
Indiana State University's Memorial Stadium on March
31.
The Fightin' Engineers will square off with St. Joseph's College in the lone match of its non-traditional spring schedule, as permitted by NCAA rules.
The event includes eight total teams and will be
hosted by Indiana State University. Other competing teams
include Indiana State, Ball State, IPFW, IUPUI, Purdue, St.
Louis.
Rose-Hulman will square off with St. Joseph's at 9:30 a.m.
to open the day of activity at Indiana State University's
Memorial Stadium. Admission is $5 for the entire day of games, with
all proceeds and donations going to benefit Locks of
Love.
Rose-Hulman players Rachel Johnstone,
Samantha Peters and Rebecca
Stevens have committed to donate hair for the
organization, and the team has also led a campus wide fundraiser to
raise funds.
The Locks of Love organization, which began operation in 1998,
provides the prostheses to children, ages 6-21, every 18 months for
a total of up to 10 hairpieces. These hairpieces require between
6-10 ponytails and take approximately 4-6 months to manufacture.
Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrive as a result of the
national publicity that Locks of Love receives in newspapers,
magazines, television programs and other events. Monetary donations
to Locks of Love are tax deductible.
