TERRE HAUTE, IND. – A game-winning goal has made sophomore Kate DeMoss the first Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women’s soccer player since 2010 to be named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week.
DeMoss (Martinsville, Ind./Roncalli) broke a scoreless tie with her point-blank shot in the box in the 78th minute of Saturday’s game against Benedictine to give the Fightin’ Engineers a 1-0 victory, their first of the young 2013 season.
The honor was the first in DeMoss’ career and the first honor for the Rose-Hulman women’s soccer team since Molly Richardson earned two conference player of the week honors during the 2010 season.
DeMoss led the Engineers with eight goals as a freshman to go along with three assists en route to first-team all-HCAC honors in 2012.
Rose-Hulman (1-1, 0-0 HCAC) returns to play Wednesday for a 6 p.m. home matchup against visiting Marian (Ind.) at Jim Rendel Field.
