TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team will cap the 2013 regular season with Saturday's home match with Manchester University beginning at 1 p.m. at the Intramural Field.
The Fightin' Engineers (10-4-4, 6-2 HCAC) clinched at least the four-seed in the upcoming Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with their 2-1 win at Earlham Tuesday, marking RHIT's first tournament berth since 2009. Rose-Hulman would need a victory Saturday and a Transylvania loss for a chance to host a semifinal match, set for Nov. 6.
Saturday also marks Rose-Hulman's senior day, as seniors Nicky Wheeler (Avon, Ind./Avon), Cassie Cox (Louisville, Ky./Manual), Rachel Johnstone (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) and Amanda Kingman (Plano, Texas/Senior) will be honored before the start of the contest.
Wheeler leads the Engineers with seven goals and four assists, including both scores in Tuesday's win at Earlham. Sophomore teammate Hayley Gilliam (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) adds four goals and an assist for RHIT.
Sophomore keeper Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) enters the final week of HCAC regular-season play as the conference leader in saves (131), save percentage (.936) and goals-against average (0.47). Her save percentage is also ranked third in the Division III national rankings, helping Rose-Hulman to a No. 2 ranking in team save percentage.
Manchester (11-6, 7-1-0 HCAC) enters Saturday's contest on a seven-match win streak, with the second-place Spartans' lastest victory coming on Wednesday's 4-0 decision over Anderson. Katelyn Barta leads Manchester with 13 goals and teammate Brandy Crouse adds 10 scores.
