johnstone-mcFRANKLIN, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored three goals in a four-minute span of the second half to top Franklin College 3-0 in women's soccer action on Tuesday night.

Junior Nicky Wheeler (Avon) opened the scoring in the 66th minute, courtesy of a pass from freshman Helena Bomber (Bargersville/Center Grove).

Just two minutes later, freshman Katie DeMoss (Martinsville/Roncalli) gave Rose-Hulman a 2-0 lead on a score, off a pass from senior Amy Schleter (Knoxville, Tenn./Karns).

Two minutes later, in the 70th minute, junior Rachel Johnstone (Loveland, Ohio) capped the scoring streak to give Rose-Hulman its final margin of victory.  Sophomore Mackenzie Christensen (New Glarus, Wis.) provided the assist.

The teams each fired nine shots in the match, with Wheeler leading the Rose-Hulman attack with five shots.

Freshman Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) recorded her sixth shutout of the season and the seventh of the year by the Fightin' Engineers to pick up the victory.  Combs tallied four saves in the shutout.

Rose-Hulman improved to 8-6-2 and 3-2-1 in conference play, while Franklin dropped to 4-6-3 and 0-3-3 in league matches.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action at Hanover on Saturday.
