Women's Soccer Rallies to Top North Park 2-1

KingmanACTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored two second half goals to defeat North Park University 2-1 in the women's soccer season opener for both teams on Saturday at Indiana State University.

North Park took the early lead at 1-0 on a score by Rebekah Marquez in the 38th minute.

Rose-Hulman junior Amanda Kingman (Plano, Texas/Senior) scored inside the box to knot the score at 1-1 in the 73rd minute.  Kingman scored off a pass from freshman Cassidy Cain (Noblesville) that ended up in the box courtesy of a boot from sophomore Mackenzie Christensen (Racine, Wis./New Glarus).

With the score tied at 1-1, Rose-Hulman continued the offensive pressure and was awarded a penalty kick with slighly over two minutes remaining.  Freshman Katie DeMoss (Martinsville/Roncalli) booted home the score to give Rose-Hulman a 2-1 victory.

Freshman Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) picked up the victory in goal.  Combs recorded one save and also made several strong plays on crossing passes inside the box.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season and returns to action wtih a 3 p.m. game against Wilmington at Franklin College on Sunday.  North Park stands 0-1.
