GilliamBOX SCORE

GREENVILLE, ILL. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored early in the second half and relied on a strong defensive effort to top Greenville College 1-0 in women's soccer action on Wednesday night.

Freshman Hayley Gilliam (Zionsville) (pictured)  scored the first goal of her career at the 51:30 mark, courtesy of a double assist.  Freshman Katie Maier (Billings, Mont.) made an initial pass into the midfield that was sent on by freshman Mallory McDevitt (Wapakoneta, Ohio) and into the goal by Gilliam.

Freshman Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) recorded four saves for her first college shutout.  The Fightin' Engineers improved to 2-1 on the season with the victory.

Rose-Hulman controlled the play offensively for much of the game, outshooting the host Panthers 9-4.  Sophomore Nicky Wheeler (Avon) and freshman Katie DeMoss (Martinsville/Roncalli) led the balanced offensive attack with two shots each.  The Engineers also had a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with two matches this weekend.  The Fightin' Engineers head to Indianapolis to face Marian on Saturday, then return home to host Centre on Sunday.
