TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Carolyn Guzik (Avon, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) scored nine minutes into overtime to lead the women's soccer team past Marian University 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Guzik scored her first goal of the season on a pass from senior Anna Vogel (East Greenwich, R.I./LaSalle Academy) at the 8:39 mark of the first overtime session to lead Rose-Hulman to its second win of the season.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie for the first 70 minutes, until freshman Becca Evans (Tinley Park, Ill./Victory Andrew) scored her first college goal on an assist from sophomore Rachel Johnstone (Loveland, Ohio) at the 71:35 mark.
Katy Toth responded with an unassisted goal for Marian at the 82:17 mark to tie the score at 1-1 and force the extra session.
Marian outshot Rose-Hulman 18-7 in the contest, with senior Julie Brennan (Indianapolis/Pike) providing the effort in goal to help lead the Fightin' Engineer defensive effort. Brennan tallied six saves in goal to earn the victory.
Vogel led Rose-Hulman with three shots. Toth fired a match high six shots for Marian.
Rose-Hulman improved to 2-2 on the season, while Marian dropped to 4-1. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Wednesday at home against Webster.
