TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman men's soccer team clinched the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title with a 5-0 win over visiting Defiance College on Senior Day at Jim Rendel Field.
The Engineers controlled the game throughout, outshooting the Yellow Jackets 26-3 and allowing only one shot on goal.
Junior Nate Becker (St. Charles, Ill./North) got Rose-Hulman on the board first in the 12th minute when he was credited with a goal after his cross was played into the Defiance goal by a Yellow Jacket defender.
Sophomore Corbin Clow (Martinsville) made the score 2-0 in favor of the Engineers when he scored off of a rebound from a header by freshman Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University).
Sophomore Mitch Buffington (O'Fallon, Ill.) tallied his second goal of the season after finishing from two quick passes by Vatterrodt and sophomore Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central) to make the score 3-0 in favor of Rose-Hulman at the half.
Sophomore Will Terrill (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Christian Academy) scored his first and second goals of the season in the second half of play to round out the scoring for the Engineers. Terrill's first goal was assisted by seniors Trevor Miller (Okemos, Mich.) and Brian Fulmer (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls).
Senior Isaac Heyveld (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) earned the clean sheet in goal en route to improving his record to 12-2-2 on the year.
With the victory, Rose-Hulman earns the top seed in the HCAC Conference tournament and will host Hanover College at Jim Rendel Field on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The Engineers finish the regular season with a 12-4-3 record and 7-0-1 mark in HCAC play.
