225-msoccerTERRE HAUTE, IND. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men’s soccer team – the 2012 co-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion -- is already hard at work in preparation for the defense of its title.

Led by four-time HCAC Coach of the Year Sean Helliwell (sixth season), the Fightin’ Engineers began two-a-day practices Friday to prepare for their season opener at the Daniel Schuetz Community Classic at Franklin College on Aug. 30-31.

Rose-Hulman will have a talented cast back for 2013, as it returns six all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference players from last season when the Engineers tied with preseason favorite Transylvania for the regular season title.

Those include senior Mike Schiff (Martinsville/Mooresville), who led the way with HCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was joined on the first-team all-league squad by defender Andrew Bartush (Granger/Penn), forward Drew Belk (Jasper), midfielder Marshall Ishmael (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut), goalkeeper Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) and forward William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North).
