TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament against No. 8 ranked Ohio Northern University in a match at Case Western Reserve University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live in the Wabash Valley on WMHD-90.7 FM and online at http://livestats.prestosports.com/rosehulman/. Live in-game statistics and in-game video will also be available on the website.
Rose-Hulman stands 16-5 this fall and earned its spot in the 61-team NCAA Division III Tournament field by capturing the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship by a 5-1 margin over Earlham College on Saturday.
The Fightin' Engineers are making their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament after qualifying for the event in 2008. Rose-Hulman enters the national tournament on a school record 11-match winning streak.
Senior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) has led the team's offensive effort with school records of 21 goals, 10 assists and 52 points this season. Vatterrodt ranks in the top six nationally in goals and points.
Sophomore Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) has added seven goals and nine assists for 23 points, with sophomore William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) contributing nine goals and 20 points. Sophomore John Munson (Bloomington, Ill./University) has tied Vatterrodt for the single-season school record with 10 assists.
The Rose-Hulman defense has been a major reason for the team's success this season. Freshman Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) stands in the top five nationally in goals against average at 0.33 and has a .909 save percentage with 40 stops. Miller has a perfect 12-0 record as the team's netminder.
Rose-Hulman has allowed just three goals during the team's school record 11-match winning streak that began on October 1 at Mount St. Joseph. The team has outscored the opposition 59-16 and has set a new single-season school record for goals (59) and points (166) this fall.
Ohio Northern stands 18-2-2 on the season and won the Ohio Athletic Conference championship with an 8-0-1 mark in conference play. The Polar Bears are ranked No. 8 by d3soccer.com and No. 10 by the NSCAA, and earned a 5-0 victory over John Carroll University in the OAC title match on Saturday. Ohio Northern comes into the match on a 10-match winning streak.
Nathan Bascom leads Ohio Northern with 16 goals and 40 points this season. Cameron Johnson has added 11 goals and 27 points. Goalkeeper Mac Church stands 18-2-2 on the season with a 0.73 goals against average to lead the defense.
Case Western Reserve and No. 12 ranked DePauw University round out the four-team regional in Cleveland. The regional title match will take place on Sunday at 5 p.m.
