TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Marian University scored late but couldn't overcome the deficit as Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology defeated the Knights 3-1.
Rose-Hulman was led by senior Clint Vatterodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) who scored two goals in the contest. The Engineers scored two goals in the first half before adding a third early in the second half to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Marian took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity in the 75th minute to score their lone goal.
Sophomore Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) scored in the 8th minute of action off a pass from sophomore John Munson (Bloomington, Ill./University) to take the early 1-0 advangtage.
Vatterodt scored his seventh goal of the season when he headed the ball into the net off a perfectly placed corner kick from Green in the 23rd minute.
Vatterodt scored his eighth of the season when he flicked the ball over the goalies head in the 56th minute. Sophomore Max Brown (Atlanta, Ga./Chamblee Charter) had the assist.
Fabricio Lemus knocked in the Knights goal to make the game 3-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) picked up the saves in his third victory of the season.
Rose-Hulman is now 5-3 on the season while Marian falls to 6-2. The Engineers open the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Saturday as they face conference rival Tranyslvania on Homecoming.
