Rose-Hulman Unable to Overcome Early Men's Soccer Deficit, Falls To Denison


Englert1TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Denison University jumped to an early 3-1 lead a withheld a determined Rose-Hulman men's soccer squad to hold onto the 3-2 victory at Jim Rendel Field.

Denison scored their three goals in the first fifteen minutes of the game, scoring their first goal just 2:40 into the game by Ben Peek. 

Junior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University)  answered immediately, scoring his fourth goal of the season on a breakaway just 25 seconds later off the assist from freshman Michael Schiff (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville).

Denison took back the lead scoring their next two goals in the 13th and 15th minutes, by Chris Olson off a Ryan Torgersen pass, and Bob Casarona.

Senior Joe Salisbury (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) knocked in his first  goal of the season in the 39th minute off a deflected corner kick from 20 yards out to make the deficit 3-2. 

The Fightin' Engineers battled in the second half with several chances at goal including two shots off the crossbar and six corner kicks in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net and fell to the Big Red 3-2. 

Vatterrodt led the Engineers with four of the team's 10 shots.   

Rose-Hulman falls to 1-5-2 with the defeat, while Denison improved to 3-4 on the year.  The Engineers return to action Wednesday as they travel to Illinois Wesleyan University for a non-conference matchup.
