First Half Penalty Kick Leads National Power Wheaton Past Rose-Hulman

Vatterodt2WHEATON, ILL. -- Wheaton College junior Drew Golz scored on a first half penalty kick to lead the nationally regarded Thunder past Rose-Hulman 1-0 in men's soccer action on Friday night.

Wheaton, receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national Division III poll, tied Rose-Hulman with 12 shots each in the tightly contested match.

Sophomore Zane Englert (Waterloo, Ill.) paced Rose-Hulman with three shots in the matchup.

Seniors Corbin Clow (Martinsville) and Joe Salisbury (Fort Wayne/Homestead) joined junior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./ University) with two shots each to lead the Rose-Hulman offense.

Junior Eric Davenport (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) recorded three saves in goal to lead the Engineer defensive effort.

Wheaton stands 1-0 on the season, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 0-2.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday afternoon against Elmhurst College at Wheaton.
