IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored in the 84th
minute to snap a 1-1 tie and earn a 2-1 men's soccer victory
over Anderson University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference action on Wednesday.
Junior William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) opened the scoring in the eighth minute to give the Fightin' Engineers a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal.
Anderson knotted the score at 1-1 on an early second half goal in the 52nd minute by Brad Rusche.
Rose-Hulman netted the game winner in the 84th minute. Junior Drew Belk (Jasper) finished the play in front, courtesy of a pass from freshman Mike Smyser (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills North).
Freshman Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) recorded four saves for Rose-Hulman, while Chris Maloney had seven saves in net for Anderson.
Rose-Hulman outshot Anderson 14-10 in the match, with Belk firing four shots and Senat three to lead the offense. The Fightin' Engineers controlled much of the play in the second half, recording a 10-1 edge in corner kicks in the match.
Rose-Hulman improved to 6-4-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, while Anderson stands 4-9 and 0-2 in league matches. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Defiance on Saturday.
