Men's Soccer Narrowly Falls at Illinois Wesleyan


ThompsonGCBLOOMINGTON, ILL. - Illinois Wesleyan withstood a Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer rally with a narrow 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 5-0 on the season with two goals in the first 12 minutes of play.  Rose-Hulman rallied with a first half goal and mounted several charges in the second half before falling to 1-3-2 on the season.

Kyle Gorgol and Tim Griffin opened the scoring in the second and 12th minutes to give the unbeaten Titans the early lead.

Rose-Hulman senior B.J. Thompson (Princeton) provided Rose-Hulman's score on the night with a blast in the 32nd minute.

Thompson fired one of Rose-Hulman's four shots on the match, compared to 18 for Illinois Wesleyan.  Sophomore Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) kept the Fightin' Engineers within reach with eight saves.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with a home matchup against Millikin University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
