VatterodtKCTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Transylvania University held off a strong charge by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the second half to earn a 3-1 men's soccer victory on Saturday afternoon.

Rose-Hulman outshot Transylvania 16-10 on the afternoon, including 9-6 in the second half.  Transylvania relied on timely offense for its scoring, however, with goals by Robbie Graham and Tony Spero giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Spero added a third goal for Transylvania, before senior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) put the Fightin' Engineers on the board with his ninth goal of the season in the 77th minute.  Sophomore Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) recorded the assist.

Vatterrodt fired six shots to lead the Rose-Hulman offense.  Green and junior Adam Carlson (Brownsburg) added two shots each.

Transylvania improved to 3-3-2 overall and 1-0 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 5-4 and 0-1 in conference matches.  The Fightin' Engineers host Greenville College on Tuesday night.
