DECATUR, ILL. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored twice in the second half and relied on a strong team defensive effort to top Millikin University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) scored twice for the Engineers, and senior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) added the middle goal to provide Rose-Hulman's offensive output.
Defensively, freshman Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) recorded his first career shutout in goal as part of the defensive effort.
Senat put the Engineers ahead 1-0 with a score in the 16th minute, courtesy of a pass from sophomore John Munson (Bloomington, Ill./University).
In the second half, Vatterrodt gave Rose-Hulman an insurance goal to make the score 2-0 with 12 minutes left. Senat added the last score, courtesy of a pass from Vatterrodt, in the final minutes to give Rose-Hulman its final margin of victory.
Rose-Hulman outshot Millikin 20-3 in the match, including 12-1 in the first half. Vatterrodt led the offense with five shots, and Senat added four. Miller recorded one save in net for the victory.
Rose-Hulman improved to 4-3 on the season and hosts Marian University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Engineer Intramural Field.
