Vatterodt2ELSAH, ILL. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the 2011 men's soccer season with a 3-0 victory at Principia College on Friday night.

Senior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) opened the scoring with a goal off a free kick in the 24th minute.

Junior Joe Byrd (Danville, Ind./Covenant Christian) put the Engineers ahead 2-0 in the 63rd minute on a cross from sophomore Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial).

Junior B.J. Thompson (Princeton) added the third goal in the 86th minute on a crossing pass from sophomore Fletcher Carlson (North Muskegon, Mich.).

SeniorEric Davenport (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way-Central) picked up the shutout in goal in his first start of the season.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season, while Principia dropped to 0-2.  The Fightin' Engineers host Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon.
