TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored two second half goals and relied on strong defense in a shutout to earn a 2-0 men's soccer victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday night.
Sophomore Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) snapped a scoreless tie in the 74th minute on a score, courtesy of a pass from senior Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University).
Sophomore William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) added an insurance goal in the 88th minute, courtesy of a pass from Vatterrodt, senior Eric Davenport (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) and sophomore Jake Crouch (Fort Wayne/Bishop Luers) combined on a shutout in goal. Crouch was credited with the victory and three saves in his college debut.
Vatterrodt tied Rose-Hulman's career school record with his 20th assist on the second goal of the evening.
Offensively, Rose-Hulman outshot Illinois Wesleyan 8-6 in the match, with Vatterrodt and Senat leading the team with two shots each.
Rose-Hulman improved to 7-5 on the season, while Illinois Wesleyan dropped to 5-5. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Hanover on Saturday.
