School Records Fall in Season Opener at Anderson

746-wgolfauANDERSON, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology set numerous school records to open the 2013 women's golf season at Anderson University on Saturday and Sunday.

New school records include lowest individual 18- and 36-hole rounds by a player; team school records for 18 and 36 holes; and best overall team score in an event.

Freshman Peem Chanrotchanaphan (Chiang Mai, Thailand/Grace International School) set school records for lowest 18-hole and 36-hole score in Rose-Hulman history to lead the individual effort.  Chanrotchanaphan fired a 76 on Sunday, after a round of 81 on Saturday for a two-day score of 157 to place fourth overall.

Junior Deanne De Keizer (Mishawaka/Penn) placed eighth overall with rounds of 83 on Saturday and 80 on Sunday for a two-day total of 163.  Sophomore Hayley Vonder Haar (Highland, Ill./Highland) also finished in the top 10 with two consistent rounds of 82.

The effort helped Rose-Hulman finish third overall in team scoring, behind nationally ranked DePauw and just two shots behind HCAC foe Hanover.  The squad set a school record for 18-hole score on Sunday (324) and overall 36-hole score on the weekend (657).

Sophomore Jaclyn Smith (Thorntown/Western Boone) added a top-20 finish in 17th overall with rounds of 87 and 86.  Freshman Taylor King (Scottsdale, Ky./Allen County Scottsville) added rounds of 97 and 90.

Individuals competing in the event included freshman Erin Scully (Arcadia/Hamilton Heights) with a round of 80 on Saturday and an 88 on Sunday.  Scully's round of 80 ranks in the top 10 in Rose-Hulman school history and she placed 16th individually. 

Other individual scorers included graduate student Melissa Montgomery (Alexandria/Monroe) with two rounds of 92 and sophomore Chloe LaVelle (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) with two rounds of 93.

The Fightin' Engineers return to the course next weekend at the Hanover Invitational.
