TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes combined for three Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards, in results released by the league office on Monday.
Sophomore Jessica Ahlborn (Houghton, Mich.) was named HCAC Softball Hitter of the Week, senior Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) was the HCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, and senior Travis Stallings (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) earned Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors.
Ahlborn batted .571 with a 1.286 slugging average and a .600 on-base average to help lead the Rose-Hulman softball offense last week.
She finished 8-14 with three doubles, two triples and a walk-off home run in the 3-2 win over St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Sunday. Ahlborn's efforts also included two doubles and a triple over the course of Sunday's doubleheader.
Evans set a new NCAA Division III record in the high jump by clearing 5’ 11 1/2” to win the event at Bellarmine University. She previously tied the NCAA record with a leap of 5’ 11 1/4” earlier this season.
The seven-time All-American and four-time national champion was also named HCAC Field Athlete of the Year for the fifth time in her career earlier this year.
Stallings ran a 400-meter hurdles time of 53.37 seconds that ranks eighth nationally in NCAA Division III and fourth in Rose-Hulman history. He placed second overall against NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA runners.
During the HCAC indoor season, Stallings was part of Rose-Hulman championship teams in the 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 meter relays and earned runner-up honors in the long jump.
Rose-Hulman's softball team returns to action with a home game Tuesday against Franklin College. The Fightin' Engineer track and field teams host an open meet on Friday night, then head to the Indiana Division III Championships at Franklin on Saturday.
