TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seniors Ryann-Rebecca Montgomery (Lafayette, La./Epsicopal Acadiana) and Julian Strickland (Indianapolis/Pike) earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after historic performances last week.
Montgomery was named HCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week after a nationally ranked, school record performance in the 3,000-meter run. Strickland claimed HCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors after recording the eighth 40-point game in Rose-Hulman history on Saturday at Manchester.
Montgomery set a school record with the eighth fastest 3,000-meter run in the nation so far this indoor season to earn her second HCAC Track Athlete of the Week award this season. She won the 3,000-meters at the Ohio Northern Invitational with a time of 9:59.38 to set a new school record, a new Ohio Northern facility record, and rank nationally in the event this season.
Strickland scored a career-high 41 points to earn his conference leading fifth HCAC Player of the Week award so far this season. He finished 13-20 from the field and 12-13 from the free throw line with seven rebounds and four assists in an 85-65 win at Manchester Saturday.
Strickland added 17 points with seven rebounds and three assists in a 65-54 win at Earlham on Wednesday as the Engineers finished the week 2-0. For the week, Strickland averaged 29.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. He leads the HCAC in scoring at 22.5 points per game.
The men's basketball team continues to lead the HCAC at 17-4 overall and 12-2 in league play. Rose-Hulman hosts third-place Hanover College in the Senior Night Game on Wednesday at Hulbert Arena. The track and field teams return to action at DePauw University on Saturday.
