TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Two Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology student-athletes were honored as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their efforts last week.
Sophomore Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) earned Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week honors, and senior Cody Rivers (Coconut Creek, Fla./Monarch) claimed Football Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Jensen recorded two triple-doubles during the week as the Engineers finished 3-1 at the Rose-Hulman Invitational and 3-4 overall. She smashed 82 kills (3.28/set) with 90 assists and 63 digs.
The sophomore recorded a pair of triple-doubles for kills, assists, and digs to increase her career total to eight. Jensen leads the Fightin' Engineers in kills (126) and stands among the team's top three in assists (129), digs (90) and blocks (14).
Rivers led the Rose-Hulman defense with 11 tackles, including eight solo efforts, and recovered a fumble on the Kalamazoo one-yard line to thwart a potential touchdown. He also added one-half sack and 1.5 tackles-for-loss in the narrow 28-23 loss in Michigan.
The starting inside linebacker increased his career total to 54 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss and three sacks with Saturday's performance.
The football team hosts its home opener against Centre College on Saturday at 7 p.m. Volleyball (5-6) returns to action at the DePauw Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
