Heibel, West Earn HCAC Weekly Honors


746-04-21-14TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology juniors Carly Heibel (Fort Wayne/Lakewood Park Christian) and Stuart West (La Porte) were honored as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their recent efforts.

Heibel captured HCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season after earning two complete game conference wins.  She recorded a 2-1 win over Anderson with a six-hitter that included five strikeouts in nine innings of work.  Against Mount St. Joseph, Heibel scattered seven hits with four strikeouts in a 5-2 win.

On the season, Heibel leads the HCAC with a 1.18 earned run average and has a 9-3 record.  She has allowed 70 hits in 83.1 innings of work with eight complete games and a pair of shutouts.  Her efforts have helped Rose-Hulman compile a 15-11 record so far this spring, including a 9-5 mark in conference play.

West won the 1,500-meter run at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet on Friday night to help the Fightin' Engineers earn top team honors at the 12-team meet.

West captured the 1,500-meter run to a lead 1-2 Fightin' Engineer finish in the event, competing the distance in a time of 4:00.07.

Rose-Hulman will compete at the HCAC Track and Field Championships this weekend at Defiance and seeks its seventh consecutive men's outdoor league title.  The softball team travels to Greenville on Tuesday.
