Basketball Teams Sweep HCAC Player of the Week Awards


stricklandTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology juniors Julian Strickland (Indianapolis/Pike) and Kelsey Ploof (Noblesville/Noblesville H.S.) swept the first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Basketball Player of the Week Awards in the 2012-13 season, in results released by the league office.

Strickland averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game to lead the Fightin' Engineers to a sweep of Rensselaer Polytechnic and Milwaukee School of Engineering in the All-Engineers Classic on Saturday and Sunday. 

Strickland scored 23 points against RPI and 10 against MSOE and shot 54% from the field, 4-6 from three-point range and 3-3 on the foul line.  His efforts helped Rose-Hulman defeat RPI 79-45 and MSOE 55-28 over the two-day span.

PloofPloof averaged 18.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game to lead Rose-Hulman to a 1-1 record at the Emory Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Ploof tallied 21 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in a 59-56 loss to Piedmont, then had 16 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Spelman.  She added five steals, two assists and one blocked shot and shot 56% from the field for the week. 

The men's basketball team stands 2-0 on the season and travels to fellow 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament qualifier Carroll University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Central Time.  The women's squad has a 1-1 record and travels to Webster University in St. Louis on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Central Time.
