TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will play a total of 23 home basketball games between its men's and women's squads during the upcoming 2012-13 campaign.
The Engineers will host 12 men's and 11 women's home contests this season, including home games against the nine Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foes as part of the league's 18-game double round robin schedule.
In addition, the home schedules feature one traditional non-conference rivalry game for each squad. The women's team will host St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in the annual Clabber Girl Trophy Game on Tuesday Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m., while the men welcome DePauw University on Monday Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
The remaining non-conference home games feature men's home matchups with Fontbonne on Nov. 28 and Millikin on Dec. 12, and a women's contest against Marian on Dec. 18.
The schedule includes five home HCAC doubleheaders on Saturday afternoons. Matchups include Defiance on Dec. 1, Hanover on Dec. 15, Transylvania on Jan. 12, Bluffton on Jan. 19, and Mount St. Joseph on Jan. 26. Admission to doubleheaders will admit fans to both games for the $5 cost of one ticket.
The men's squad returns four starters from a team that reached the NCAA Division III Tournament and finished 20-9 overall last season. Two of the returning starters include all-HCAC honorees Julian Strickland and Austin Weatherford.
The effort marked the first Rose-Hulman men's basketball NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999 and the team's fourth 20-win season.
The women's squad returns four starters from last year's 9-18 team that recorded the first postseason conference tournament win in Rose-Hulman history. Head coach Jon Prevo stands 63-91 as the winningest women's basketball head coach in school history. Kelsey Ploof (9.5 ppg), Sheree Williams (8.5 ppg) and Heather Finnell (7.3 ppg) ranked second through fourth on the team in scoring last season and each player returns.
Rose-Hulman begins the men's regular season at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Tipoff Tournament on Nov. 17-18. The women open the season at the Emory Tipoff Tournament on Nov. 18-19 in Atlanta. Potential exhibition games against NCAA Division I competition will be announced at a later date if scheduled.
