TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau teamed up to host the third annual Gibson Family Collegiate Cross Country Classic on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Course.
The Gibson Family Cross Country Collegiate Classic has been established to recognize the contributions of the Gibson Family to the sport of cross country. Greg Gibson graduated from Rose-Hulman in 1984 and is a member of the Fightin' Engineer athletic Hall of Fame.
The meet featured 380 student-athletes from 14 colleges and universities in eight states. Teams will travel to Terre Haute from Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Lauren Reich won the women's six-kilometer race, and Bellarmine University won the women's team event with 40 points.
Rose-Hulman was led by freshman Nicole Gonzalez (Camarillo, Calif.) with a time of 26:25.2 in 47th place.
Junior Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) placed 53rd overall in 26:40, and sophomore Katherine Moravec (Seymour, Ind) helped the 11th place team effort with a time of 26:58 in 56th place.
The women return to action October 14, as they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to compete in the Wilmington Fall Classic.
