HANOVER, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology junior Rachel Krasich (Westfield) earned the first
all-region performance in school history to lead a historic effort
at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Regional on
Saturday.
Krasich came home 30th overall to earn the first all-region honor in Rose-Hulman's 12-year history of women's cross country. She placed 62nd in last season's NCAA Regional and was third in the HCAC Championships earlier this season.
Senior Mandy Hecker (Georgetown/North Harrison) also doubled her performance from last season, increasing from a 125th place in 2005 to a 63rd this fall.
Krasich completed the six-kilometer course in a time of 23:42, while Hecker finished in 24:30.
The duo of Krasich and Hecker helped the Engineers place 18th
overall in the meet, the first time Rose-Hulman has placed in the
top 20 at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Regional.
Freshman Melissa Rogers (Crawfordsville/ Southmont) came home third among Rose-Hulman runners with a time of 25:28 and a 108th place finish.
Rose-Hulman's season highlight was a second-place finish in the HCAC championships in October, along with victories at the Franklin and Millikin Invitationals.
