Men Compete in Gibson Family Invitational

xc-townTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau teamed up to host the third annual Gibson Family Collegiate Cross Country Classic on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Course.

The Gibson Family Cross Country Collegiate Classic has been established to recognize the contributions of the Gibson Family to the sport of cross country.  Greg Gibson graduated from Rose-Hulman in 1984 and is a member of the Fightin' Engineer athletic Hall of Fame.

The meet featured 380 student-athletes from 14 colleges and universities in eight states.  Teams traveled to Terre Haute from Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The meet features three of the top seven teams in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region on the men's side, including No. 2 Wabash, No. 6 DePauw and No. 7 Manchester.  The Little Giants are also ranked No. 14 nationally.

Bellarmine University won the meet with 18 points, led by Jordan Parayil who won the race with a time of 26:14.9.

Rose-Hulman finished in 10th place as a team, led by senior Micah Aldrich (Indianapolis, Indiana/Warren Central) with a time of 27:05.7 and a 12th place finish. 

Freshmen Stuart West (LaPorte, Ind.) placed 35th in 27:59, and Josh Hojnacki (LaPorte, Ind.) contributed a 28:26 and a 47th place to the effort.

Rose-Hulman returns to action Oct. 14 as they travel to Wilmington to compete in the Wilmington Fall Classic.
