The Rose-Hulman Cheer Team is looking for enthusiastic
cheerleaders and spirit lifters for the 2012-2013 season. The cheer team will
perform at all home football and basketball games. Experience preferred,
but not necessary.
The tentative practices are Tuesday and Sunday evenings. (Please
be aware these days and times may change.) Additional practices will be
necessary to prepare for special performances. Previous Rose-Hulman
cheerleaders with 2+ years team experience will not be required to try out
again, however will be required to help with tryouts.
Additional Tryout Information
All candidates trying out for the 2012-2013 cheer team will be
expected to learn and perform the Rose-Hulman fight song and two chants (which will be taught during tryouts).
Stunting Requirements
Stunting is mandatory and all candidates must demonstrate a
minimum of a double based extension.
Jump Requirements
All candidates will be required to perform three jumps at
tryouts. If you have any questions about jump technique, please check out
http://cheerwiz.com/cheerjum.htm for pictures and demonstrations. Candidates may select any three jumps or combinations of jumps. Candidates may choose to perform the same jump three times. Please choose your strongest jump(s). Bonus credit will be given for jumps done in combination with other jumps or tumbling skills.
Tumbling
Tumbling is not mandatory for selection to the RHIT cheer team,
however it is a strong bonus. Tumbling skills, if used, must be
performed on game surfaces. We will have mats available at tryouts for
warm up purposes ONLY. There are several tumbling gyms in the Terre Haute
area that offer classes for college level students. It is strongly
encourage to participate in outside classes if you wish to learn tumbling
skills.
Rules and Regulations
As representatives of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, the
team must conduct themselves in a professional and positive manner at all
times. Game and practice attendance is mandatory (unless prior approval is
requested and given by the coach for an academic reason). Fraternity and
sorority schedules must be coordinated around cheerleading
schedules. Team members may participate in other fall sports, but
athletes intending to commit themselves to more than one sport must
provide both practice and game schedule for the second sport and have the
schedules approved prior to tryouts. Cheerleaders and spirit lifters may not
miss games in order to participate in other sports.
Cheerleading is a NCAA sport. You may earn a varsity
letter as a cheerleader and lifter at Rose-Hulman if you complete one, full
year. You may earn a letter jacket following your second, full year of
participation. Athletic academic policies also apply. Athletic physicals
are required (please see the RHIT Athletic Training page for more information,
physical dates and appropriate forms).
Cost
The Rose-Hulman Cheer Team will provide uniforms, shoes and
pom-poms for the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders are responsible for paying
for their own warm ups (about $80) and undergarments.
