TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Marian
University shot 55% from the field and placed four players in
double figures to top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 74-49 in
women's basketball action on Tuesday night at Hulbert Arena.
The NAIA Knights improved to 9-3 on the year with an attack led by 17 points from Kaylee Walters. Whitley Emerson and Lakan Hasser-Smith scored 11 points each, with Adrienne Sahm adding 10 points for Marian.
Freshman Addie Johnson (Caledonia, Mich./Catholic Central) paced the Rose-Hulman scoring effort with 14 points and four rebounds. Junior Kelsey Ploof (Noblesville) added 10 points and four rebounds.
Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included freshman Cassidy Cain (Noblesville) with seven points and three assists; freshman Andi Evers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) with six points; freshman Hayley Gilliam (Zionsville) with five points; and sophomore Sheree Williams (Bluffton, S.C.) also with five points.
Marian jumped out to a 14-2 lead, before Rose-Hulman whittled the deficit down to 22-17 at the 5:53 mark of the first half. Ploof, Evers and a three-pointer by Johnson keyed the Fightin' Engineer spurt.
Marian answered with 11 straight points, then hit 11-13 to open the second half and secure their ninth win.
Rose-Hulman stands 3-6 on the season and travels to nationally No. 1 ranked DePauw University on Dec. 29.
