HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a
balanced scoring attack and improved to 4-1 on the season with a
72-54 win over Fontbonne University on Wednesday night at Hulbert
Arena.
Senior Nate Gissentanner (Conyers, Ga./Rockdale County) led the Engineers with 14 points on 6-7 from the field. Junior Jake Dodd (St. Peters, Mo./Missouri-St. Louis) added nine points on 4-6 from the field.
Junior Julian Strickland (Indianapolis/Pike) and freshman Jimmy Miller (Indianapolis/North Central) (pictured) scored eight points each. Miller also added a team-high five rebounds. Senior Jon Gerken (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora) also contributed seven points.
A total of 15 players apeared for the Fightin' Engineers, with everyone playing between six and 20 minutes. Twelve players dented the scoring column in the victory.
Rose-Hulman shot 45% from the field in the contest and also buried eight three-pointers. The Fightin' Engineers held Fontbonne to just 31% for the game and 23% in the opening 20 minutes.
The two teams battled back and forth early, with Rose-Hulman gaining a 13-12 lead on a Strickland three-pointer at the 10:54 mark of the first half.
Rose-Hulman closed the first half with a 21-4 run and held the Griffins to just one point in the last 7:50 of the opening 20 minutes to take control of the contest. Three pointers by Dodd and Gissentanner helped spark the spurt.
Rose-Hulman returns to action with its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference home opener against Defiance College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
