TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will
host the 2012 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball
Tournament, featuring four familiar in-state rivals.
For the third consecutive year, the four teams in the HCAC
Baseball Tournament will be Anderson, Franklin, Manchester and
Rose-Hulman. The Fightin' Engineers won the 2009 tournament
at Franklin and the 2010 event at Anderson, before Franklin claimed
the 2011 championship at Manchester.
Rose-Hulman has earned the top seed with a 27-12 overall record
and an 18-6 mark in conference play. The Fightin' Engineers
have qualified for five NCAA Division III Tournaments in their
history and won conference tournament titles in 1995, 1996, 2009
and 2010. Rose-Hulman also claimed its first conference wide
regular season championship since 1996 this spring.
Franklin earned the No. 2 seed after recording the best overall
record in the HCAC this season at 30-9, including 18-7 in
conference play. The Grizzlies won regular season conference
championships in 2002, 2005 and 2009 before earning their first
HCAC Tournament title and first trip to the NCAA Tournament in
Anderson earned the third seed after finishing 25-15 overall and
17-8 in conference play this spring. The Ravens
have qualified for postseason tournaments 33 times in the last
35 years, including eight apperances in the NCAA Division III World
Series and six NCAA Tournament appearances since
Manchester captured the fourth seed after finishing 22-18
overall and 14-11 in league play. The Spartans defeated
Transylvania 3-1 on the final day of the regular season to earn the
final tournament spot. Manchester has won four conference
tournament championships and advanced to the 2004 NCAA Division III
Admission to the tournament will be available for $5 per
day for adults, with students from HCAC institutions admitted
