TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior R.J. Carroll (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for his efforts in last week's win over Illinois Wesleyan.
Carroll tossed a complete game three-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over an Illinois Wesleyan team that entered last week ranked No. 27 nationally. He allowed just three singles, including only one hit after the third inning, and recorded eight strikeouts with no walks in the victory.
Carroll lowered his earned run average to 2.12 on the season with the victory. His effort helped Rose-Hulman win two out of three games last weekend to improve to 5-4 on the year.
The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Friday night with the opener of a three-game series against Bluffton University.
