TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology center fielder Hank Akard (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week for his efforts in five games last week.
Akard finished 13-of-24 (.542) at the plate with seven runs scored, four doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, and four stolen bases to become the new career school record holder with 43 stolen bases. He finished 7-11 with three doubles and two home runs in a wild doubleheader sweep of Mount St. Joseph that helped the Fightin' Engineers earn a three-game home series sweep last weekend.
On the season, Akard improved his batting average to .343 with six doubles, two home runs and a team-high 14 stolen bases with last weekend's performance. He also leads the team in hits (35) and runs scored (21).
The Fightin' Engineers defeated Anderson in a single contest and swept the Mount St. Joseph series to move back atop the league standings with Manchester. Rose-Hulman (16-8, 11-3 HCAC) travels to Franklin for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
