AkardFieldWINTER HAVEN, FLA. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team stands 1-1 on its annual Florida trip after falling 6-4 to Alma College on Monday.

Alma snapped a 2-2 tie with four runs in the seventh inning, then held off a two-run Rose-Hulman charge in the eighth to secure the win.

Senior Bobby Newman (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) led the Rose-Hulman offense with two hits, including a double, and one RBI.  Junior Hank Akard (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) and freshman Patrick Klima (South Bend/St. Joseph) added two singles and scored twice each.

Sophomore Ben Menich (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) earned a no decision in the start on the mound with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.

Jose Rosado had three hits, and A.J. Acton provided three RBIs to lead the Alma offense.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-1 and returns to action against Capital on Tuesday.
