TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Augustana College relied on a balanced offensive attack to top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 12-2 as part of the Fightin' Engineer baseball trip to Florida on Thursday.
Augustana broke open a scoreless tie with eight runs in the third inning to secure the victory. Kurt Schmidt scored two runs and had three hits to lead the offense.
For Rose-Hulman, senior Donald Stopka (Grayslake, Ill./Carmel Catholic) had two singles, and freshman Donnie Waters (Franklin) added a two-run double.
Freshman Andrew Stull (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) allowed just one earned run in 3.2 innings with four strikeouts to lead the Engineer pitching effort. Seth Davis struck out 11 in eight innings for Augustana in the win.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-3 on its Florida trip and squares off with Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday at 10:45 a.m.
