Manchester Advances To Championship Round Of HCAC Tourney

Marchant-mcrhTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Manchester College scored three runs in three straight innings on their way to defeat Franklin College 11-5 and advance to the championship round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. 

The Spartans scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take control of the game.  Franklin managed to score two runs in the fourth inning, but was unable to provide much of scare to the Spartans. 

  Trevor Kimm led the Spartans offense with three hits, two runs and also batted in two runs.  Jordan Nieman added three hits and two runs with an RBI.  Kyle Norris, Cody Schell and Robert Heirtz added two hits each.  Heirtz also added two runs and two RBI's.  Brad Murphy had two RBI's.  Corey Marchant was walked three times and scored twice to chip to the Manchester effort.  burchett-rhmc

Kyle Konarski struck out ten batters and pitched the complete game to gain the victory.  

Franklin was led by Jake Houston, who had three hits and scored a run.  Jameson Brock added two hits, with one run and one RBI.  

The Spartans first scored in the third inning, scoring two runs off a Jordan Nieman double down the right field line.  Marchant then scored when Norris grounded out to the shortstop.   Franklin answered with a run in the bottom of the third .

The Spartans added three more runs in the fourth.  Kimm singled to open the inning then scored on a double by Robert Heritz, who scored on an error by Franklin.  Austin Rieke reached base on a fielders choice and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brad Murphy, giving Manchester a 6-1 lead. 

Franklin again answered with two runs in the fourth, scoring two runs on a Jake Entwistle single. 

Manchester increased their lead to 9- 3 in the fifth, scoring three runs on five hits, including opening the inning with two doubles.  The Grizzlies decreased their deficit to 9-4 off a Nick Stoia solo home run. 

The visiting Spartans then added two more runs in the eighth, and Franklin added one more in the ninth for the 11-5 final. 

 

Manchester is now 24-18 and will move on to Saturday's championship round.  Franklin is now 31-10 and will play the winner of Rose-Hulman and Anderson at approximately 7 pm Friday for the right to face Manchester.
