EllisTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Franklin College pitcher Nathan Ellis threw a complete game shutout to lead the Grizzlies to a 3-0 win over Anderson University in the opening game of the Heartland Collegiate Athetic Conference Tournament. 

Ellis (top picture) threw four strikeouts and allowed just three hits to improve to a 9-2 record this season. 

Nick Stoia and Scott Windler added two hits each to fuel the Franlin offense.  Stoia also scored and batted in one run.  Kevin Entwistle scored a run with one hit while Jameson Brock scored a run. 

Anderson pitcher Dan Schmitz (bottom picture) threw a complete game and allowed just two earned runs on six hits.

Franklin took an early lead in the third inning when Stoia singled to left field.  Brock scored to give the Grizzlies the 1-0 lead. 

SchmitzIn the seventh inning, Entwistle walked to open the inning.  He then advanced to third on a bunt by Brock and scored on a wild pitch by Schmitz.

The Grizzlies added a third run when Stoia scored on a field choice by Jordan Klinedinst.  Stoia reached on an inning opening single and advanced to third on an Anderson error. 

Anderson provided a scare in the ninth inning.  Zach Garcia reached on an error with one out to give Anderson a runner.  Brett Detty then was hit by a pitch to bring up the conference leader in home runs Michel Tucker, who represented the tying run.  Tucker almost added another homer, but come up just feet short as he flied out to the warning track in left field.  Jacob Craft was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Cole Heberling then grounded out to third to end the inning and secure the 3-0 victory for Franklin.

Franklin improves 31-9 on the year and will advance to play the winner of Rose-Hulman and Manchester at noon on Friday.  Anderson fell to 25-16 and will play the loser at 3:30.
