BurchettAlmaBOX SCORE

ANDERSON, IND. -- Anderson University scored twice in the first inning and three times in the fourth, then relied on strong pitching to top Rose-Hulman 7-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.

Nolan Schaefer kept Rose-Hulman off balance with a strong pitching effort to key the victory.  Schaefer allowed just three hits in seven innings with six strikeouts to move to 2-1 on the season.  Tyler Watson pitched the final two innings to secure the win.

Offensively, Jacob Craft led the host Ravens with a two-run triple.  Jeremy Shelmadine added two hits, including a double, with one RBI.

Rose-Hulman's offensive effort was led by senior Will Burchett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) and senior Jamie Weinle (Harrison, Ohio/Olney C.C.) with two singles each.  Burchett also provided the Engineers lone run with a sharp ground ball that was errantly fielded by the Ravens to score sophomore Hank Akard (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) with the Engineer run.

Senior Ryan Fuller (Fort Wayne/Elmhurst) and freshman R.J. Carroll (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) paced the Rose-Hulman pitching effort with two innings and one run allowed out of the bullpen.

Anderson improved to 17-8 on the season and took a two-game lead in the HCAC standings at 10-1 in league play.  Rose-Hulman stands 17-8 overall and 8-3 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Friday at 6 p.m. with a nine-inning game against Hanover.
