BOX SCORE

SadzeckEC1ANDERSON, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a pitching gem by senior Gannon Sadzeck (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) and a ninth inning double by sophomore Matt Turk (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail) to top Anderson University 3-2 on Tuesday.

Sadzeck tossed his best game of the 2011 season against one of the top scoring teams in the HCAC and the defending regular season league champions.  The right-hander allowed just two runs and seven singles in eight innings of work with two strikeouts and one walk for his first win of the season.

Sadzeck pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth, retiring Vincent Moore on a ground out at second base on his final pitch to keep the score tied at 2-2 entering the ninth inning.

In Rose-Hulman's final at bat, sophomore Bobby Newman (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) started a one-out rally with a walk and advanced to second on a ground out.  Turk then slapped a double to right field, scoring Newman and giving the Fightin' Engineers a 3-2 lead.

Freshman Hank Akard (Indianapolis/Ben Davis) came on in the ninth and retired Anderson in order for his third save.

Rose-Hulman trailed 1-0 entering the top of the eighth inning, as Sadzeck dueled Greg Vogt in seven quick innings.  Singles by Turk and junior Will Burchett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) started a rally, then senior Michael Kovacs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) reached base on a single and an error with two outs and the bases loaded to plate two runs.

Offensively, Kovacs and Turk led the Engineers with two hits, including a double, and one RBI.

Rose-Hulman moved into second place in the HCAC standings at 8-3 in league play with the victory.  The Engineers improved to 18-8 overall and host Transylvania University in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.  Anderson dropped to 16-7 and 6-3 in conference games.
